Silvio Hamacher is a Full Professor on the Main Staff. Joined the Department of Industrial Engineering in 1996. Member of the Concentration Areas “Operations and Business in Engineering” and “Operational Research”. Since 2001, he has worked at the Brazilian Society of Operational Research, as president (2015-2016), director-treasurer, vice-president, director of publications (2022-2023) and member of the Fiscal Council. In 2018 he organized the 50th. SBPO. His main lines of research involve the application of Operational Research techniques to solve Energy problems, especially in the oil chain, and in Health, leading two research groups at CNPq on these topics. He works as Manager of the Decision Support and Supply Chain Area at Instituto Tecgraf, at PUC-Rio. This area develops sponsored Research & Development projects with industry, with an amount exceeding 10 million reais between 2019 and 2023. He is the Brazilian Coordinator of the UFTFORSK project, sponsored by the Norwegian government for the optimization of the oil, gas and biofuels chain (2018-2023). In the health area, he works on national and international projects, sponsored by institutions such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Pfizer International and Instituto Todos pela Saúde. In 2021 he received the Hélder Câmara Medal for his research aimed at combating COVID-19. At CNPq he is a level 1C research productivity fellow and at FAPERJ he is a Scientist of Our State.
